Britannia Industries Ltd is one of India’s leading food branded and beverage companies, It is among the most trusted food brands and manufactures India’s favorite brands like Good Day, Tiger, NutriChoice, Milk Bikis and Marie Gold which are household names in India.

Britannia is a brand which many generations of Indians have grown up with and brands are cherished and loved in India and the world over. Products are available across the country in close to 5 million retail outlets and reach over 50% of Indian homes.

It was started in Kolkata by the name of VS Brothers then, the company was taken into a partner in the name of Britannia Biscuit Company ltd, the factory setup was done in Mumbai 1924.

After world war 2 Biscuits were in more demand due to that company sales were high. In 1979 the company name was changed to Britannia Industry limited. The Wadia Group acquired Britannia Industries ltd in 1990.

All the existing manufacturing units including contract manufacturing units, are certified by an accredited third party in accordance with ‘Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points’ (HACCP) / ISO 22000 standards and operate in compliance with stringent food safety and quality standards.

Britannia Industries Research and Development (R&D):

They established a World class R&D Centre in 2016 and built up capabilities towards its goal of transforming into a ‘Total Foods Company’. R&D continued to focus on consumer centric and high quality products and developed ‘Choco-Hazelnut crème’ filled biscuit variant under ‘Pure Magic’ brand, ‘MilkBikis Atta’ product, ‘Masala Mania’ variant under the ‘Timepass’ brand, ‘Layerz Cake’ of ` 5, ‘Lassi’ with 2 variants – ‘Rose Classic’ and ‘Mango’ under the ‘Winkin Cow’ brand.

R&D has successfully built capabilities to use alternate cereals, whole grains and millets in its product portfolio, thereby overcoming significant taste barrier due to use of these ingredients.

‘Suphoshan’ nutrition intervention program undertaken by the Britannia Nutrition Foundation (BNF), Narayana Health Charitable Trust and National Health Mission, Government of Rajasthan in adolescent school going children with iron and folic acid fortified biscuits developed by R&D team led to significant increase in the haemoglobin levels in adolescents

Britannia had committed to retrieve plastics from the system through Extended Producers’ Responsibility (EPR) initiatives across India for multilayer and plastic packaging waste collection and energy recovery in association with PRO’s. scaled up the EPR to ~5500 tonnes of plastics during the year and a plan is in place to be plastic neutral by March 2022.
